Holux isn’t offering Vis. I would be really suspicious of that GPS as you don’t see the driver. I uninstalled the driver and then reloaded it using Win 7’s compatibility mode but the result was the same. Do not purchase this item for Linux or Unix systems! At least 3 of them have purchased one.

A great end to a valiant struggle!! As the Holux works on your other computer, it might be premature to chuck it. Perhaps I could try putting the laptop into an oven so that it wouldn’t freeze: I am considering the Globalsat So I installed the one that they sent, plugged in the device with the same result – computer freeze. I deleted all of them, rebooted and got the same result.
Terry, I did search using “holux” and “prolific” and the computer found some files that I missed. So I purchased another make that I had before but gave to a friend who went on an emergency expedition. Holux gr2-13u offering Vis.

Do you have another GPS that uses a driver to test? Do you think booting it up with the device in the USB port which I just remembered I did the third time in the car might have caused an issue? Next I emailed Holux’s tech support and they emailed me a driver newer than the one on their web site.
You can’t post answers that contain an email address. Wait until your investigations provide a fruitful solution at least.
Thanks again Terry, I can’t get to that point because whenever I plug it in my computer freezes. One solution is when the installition cd in loaded in the drive, right click on the cd icon in Computer.
Choose open, search for the setup.
Thanks for the comment on the Globalsat I went through the same process as I did with the first driver with the same result. At least 3 of them have purchased one. Terry, I did just that and showed all the hidden devices and nothing showed up. I got the same result – computer froze 2 seconds after inserting the device. I did unplug the device and replugged it in all three USB ports – everything worked well.
It’s worth a thousand words.
Just wondering if this source for drivers would support all of us trying to get our DeLorme LT’s to work with our Autoroute? I have had more than a few problems with Vista not gr-23u drivers. May April I finally uninstalled the driver went into Device manager and brought up the driver tab of the red X’d device and clicked Uninstall and was presented with the opportunity to check a box to physically remove the drivers windlws the system, which I did. In my case it was a cheap solution because I have a collection of Windows machines that I can use.
I than ge-213u and reinstalled the latest driver and then connected the receiver and Windows than found the driver successfully installed it.
Terry, I risked and purchased a GlobalSat BU, installed it with the same Prolific driver, Windows 7 recognized it and the device appeared in the Device Manager with no red flags or warnings.

You may also like. Copy the new folder “GRu Driver Program-Vista Driver” to the “Holux Vista Drvr” folder you created in “Documents”, so that you can later delete all those files that may have built up in “Downloads”folder from doing lots of downloading.
I then looked in all the categories and could not locate the device. I use a free program, “Secure Zip for Windows”.
